A few of things with this...
  • I have started to send out an email newsletter. It is bringing in new members as well as bringing back old members. We don't want to scare these members away just because they have posted in an old thread.
  • "Handstands" have been discussed for years already and will never be an old topic on this site.
  • If we would rather leave the old threads and have new threads stared with the same topic...I have no issue with that.
We do need to make it impossible for people to post in old threads if we do not want them coming up. In other words...a thread needs to be either "open" or "closed"...not "open but you can't post in it".

Imagine if you could drive your car through "green" lights...and you had to stop at "red" lights...not to much of a stretch. What if you had to examine the traffic light as you approached? If the traffic light was installed before 1984 and the light is "green"...you have to stop also. Not going to work.

Here is one possible solution for this situation...

I never have an issue with people asking a question that has been asked before, that goes with the territory.

I would prefer old threads be left old, though searchable like an archive. I love to be able to refer new people to old threads, there are some gems out there.

I had thought that locking old threads was not necessary, but it seems that is not the case as some members are accessing them in multiple ways. So JBS please explore that possibility.

The new feature where threads with similar topics are highlighted is very good, and I have enjoyed reading through some of those older threads.

I don't know if this feature is available for this forum, but it's on another forum that I frequent...

When a thread is over X number of days old, a little message pops up that says "This thread is old, and probably doesn't need any more discussion!" If you still want to reply, you just click next. I know that it's kept me from posting a couple of times.

^^^^ I like it JBS just one suggestion can the warning be added to the top of the message instead of the bottom so its right there in your face when the message opens??

Nope...that's where the program puts it...no option to change it. I would like it in the last post also. It should do the job though.
