Wow I can't believe how long I've been away from here. I went back to college and haven't even had time to do what needs to be done.

DD's first L7 meet agains other gyms is this Saturday she is only doing 3 events because she still doesn't have her straddle up on her bars. So frustraiting when she has everysthing else and she is trying so hard - but I know she will get it soon she is almost there a little more confidence and a little more speed and she'll have it.

Then it will be meets after new years almost every weekend (talk about no family time and bleacher butt)

Good luck to everyone else I'm sure you are all starting up or have just started up too.

Interesting. I don't remember there being a requirement for a straddle up on bars for level 7?
I could be wrong, but I thought with the changes to the code this year, if they aren't getting at least pretty close to handstand, they'll take a big hit on bars.

I have no idea what the requirements are for L7 - I feel like a newbie L4 again. LOL

All I know is in her bar routine she has to straddle up into a handstand and she is almost there just a little more speed and she'll have it. The coach though she might have it for this meet but not there yet should have it by Jan at the latest. I think she'll have it by the next meet (crossing fingers and toes lol)

Maybe I will get to see your daughter compete!! If I am correct, the level 7's are competing at my gym this weekend-Atlantic. Good luck to her!!

Yup we were at Atlantic. My DD loves competing at your gym not sure why but she is comfortable there.

She did ok for a first L7 meet. I could tell there were some 2nd year L7's there too getting the higher scores.

Lets see she had an 8.725 on floor which wasn't bad for her at a first meet.

a 8.9 on vault again for a first meet not bad she took 2 big steps on the
landing

and a 7.8 on beam she fell twice and I think both times someone did a flash photo of someone else in the gym. She is easily distracted by that.

I know someone from atlantic went over and had to make an anouncement again not to use flash. I think by L7 parents and friends would know this and not have to be told again and again.

Over all she was happy with her first time out.

I'm with you there. My dd did a couple Level 7 meets last year, but with the changes to the code, coach is redoing routines this year. The thing that is confusing, is that he's also been trying to raise the standards for the program in general as he just took it over last year. When he comes up with new requirements, I'm never sure if it's required by the code or just becase he wants to make the program more competitive. My understanding with the level 7 cast thing was there's no more "A" cast, so if they don't get within 20 degrees of handstand it doesn't count as an element at all and they risk being short the minimum number of elements.

Welcome back! Sounds like you are one busy lady! congrats to DD on her first L7 meet! I cant wait to hear how she does in her first meet where she competes all 4 events!

That's sort of where we are too. The coach we have for the optionals just came on board in june. The HC was "let go" and this new coach took over as HC. Don't get me wrong here I think this new coach is great all the girls LOVE her and she really cares if they get the moves. She believes if they don't really have the move with a form that will get them the points then they don't do the event - I tend to agree with that - no more bad form routines. So far only one L7 girl has all the events at the optional levels.

I have to say at this first meet there were a number of girls from other gyms that would have benifited from more practice and not doing all the events. There were some really awful routines out there.
