Parents Choosing floor music help

My daughter is entering her first year as an optional and needs floor music. She submitted three options and her coach said my daughter's first choice will work well, but indicated it is very "radio" and therefore isn't overly enthusiastic. She clarified that by "radio", she means a known song as opposed to a more traditional floor music song.

My question is: Is this purely subjective or is there strategy/logistics around not doing a well-known song as long as it is not overly used?

The more popular the song is, the more girls will want it. It could be overused by the time the season comes around. Or it could be on a most hated list.
Also, if there is a music video to it with good choreography, many girls will at least have a nod to the video's choreo in their routine. It can get boring.

I say that if it's her first choice, go for it. The coach wont be the one performing it meet after meet.

Thank you so much. It's a well-known song, but not popular among my daughter's generation. :)

Our floor coach is super picky about music. A current song or popular song will be not be approved. This year, she provided 3 options to my daughter as a starting point but my daughter didn't like them, so we picked about 9-10 more songs and her coach picked the winner. She's a gifted choreographer and creates incredibly custom routines for each of the girls (we pay her and learn it during a private lesson) so while her pickiness is a little annoying, it's a huge payoff in the end. The gym dominates on floor because of her, so she knows what she's doing.
That said, I would go with what your coach is recommending!
