What is the difference between getting an official visit vs an unofficial visit...and does it matter?

Official visits are paid for by the university, there are strict and specific rules related to how much they can spend, the time allotted with the athlete, what they can do. Unofficial visits are paid out of pocket, there are also some rules about what the university can do on an unofficial visit. But in general they cannot provide "benefits" to the athlete. Only on an official visit.
