*For the Xcel program and Platinum/Diamond specifically*

DD sucks at normal split jumps and split leaps in her own words. This summer she is aiming for Diamond and coaches are working on trying to find new split ideas. She’s got a good straddle, but is uncomfortable with it on beams without matting. She can also do a pretty good double stag and is comfortable with it on high beam. Do double stags fulfill split angle requirements? Or are there alternative split angle jumps we should try?

Double stag jumps DO NOT fill the split angle requirement. It has to be a leap or jump with a cross or side split and the front leg must be extended. In other words: ring leap = okay, stag jump or double stuck jump = not okay.

A few other things she migth want to try: sometimes gymnasts are better at a switch leap (thank you momentum) than a normal split leap. If she has a good straddle jump, she could try it facing sideways on the beam. It’s considered “harder” - but some gymansts find it less scary.
