Could you share the name of the high school with me please?
There may be more but schools with a gymnastics team that also have a private gymnastics club located in the same city are Solon, Chagrin Falls, Kenston, Mentor, Medina, Brecksville, Twinsburg, and Brunswick. I know there are more, I just cannot think of them.

One thing to take into consideration, and I do not know if this will be an issue or really that it is applicable to only the agency my exchange student went through. However, when she looked into choosing Canada, (preferred by her father for safety reasons) the agency could not guarantee that she would be placed in the English speaking parts of the country. Since she had spent years learning English and wanted to be placed where she could really use what she knew. And she didn’t speak any French..

High schools with gymnastics teams in Washington state:

I don’t know anything about other states but I know WA.
Of these WA high schools, I highly recommend Mead HS in Spokane WA. My sister’s kids go there and it is a great school. They have one of the top gymnastics teams in the state. Dynamic is a club gym that is fairly close to the HS and near a bus line. Traffic isn’t too bad and people tend to be very nice over there, so you might find another gym parent to give your daughter a ride. Spokane in general is pretty promising.

thenk you for your answer, we tend to like midlle size cities better than large cities, but really we woud just like to sort out all the issues to see if this is possible, that wouldbe the priority. doyou have any suggestions of cities?
Maybe look for suburbs in high performing regions, then? Plenty of high performing gyms in the Chicago suburbs, the Dallas Fort Worth area, or Orlando suburbs (as mentioned by a previous poster).

Good luck!

Hello, My daughter is 14, we are colombians living in Spain, she has trainned gymnastics since she was 3yo. Since her dream is to train gymnastics in the USA, she wants to do an exchange year. Most exchange agencies are not familiar with this sport since its usualy trainned in clubs.

I want to know if anyone has experience with exchange students in your club.

I am lost since I dont know if I should go by exchange student agency, if I should pick the school or maybe do it through a club.

I would appeciate any information I can get about gymnastics inthe USA, bests cubs, levels, exchange programs. Shoud she train in her high school, or do girls go to clubs? Here if you want a competitive level you must go to a club, the same as in Colombia.

Thank you!
HI, sorry I'm not a coach but a parent, and I don't know much about the exchange student part, but I'm just going try to provide some general information in case it would be helpful. My daughter is a level 9/10 gymnast and former fencer. There was a similar aged fencer from Spain whom we would have been willing to host last year so that they could go to the same high school for a year and train at the same fencing club, but our high school didn't take longer-term exchange students (only very short-term ones as part of a reciprocal program), only the other high school in our town (technically defined as a city but really a suburb of Boston), which is actually closer to the gymnastics club than ours.

You mentioned training but not competitions. For our high school team, gymnastics is only a winter sport, so December through March last year, since they made it to the regional New England competition), whereas club is year-round with competitions from December through March for state-level, then regional or national level competitions in April and May. The club usually decides on which meets/competitions to go to by the end of the summer and registers the gymnasts well in advance. For the first meet in December, I see the registration deadline is October. Also, gymnasts have to be registered with the USAG (https://usagym.org/).

For club gymnastics, transportation could be a significant issue, unless the host family lives relatively close to the club in question. For example, my daughter's practices are 5:15-9:15 pm three weeknights, 4:15-815 and 4:30-7:30 pm two weeknights, and 7-10 am Saturday mornings. Our club wouldn't be convenient to get to by bicycle, especially after dark. All this driving would be a lot to ask of a host family! Alternatively, Uber does have a service for teens in certain cities, but obviously that would add up to an additional expense.

For our high school team, all the high scoring gymnasts were also active club gymnasts, and I believe that to be largely true for all the teams in our section, state, and probably New England.

Sorry if this isn't helpful, but I wanted to just point out some logistical considerations.

Spokane is fun too! We accompanied my husband on his work trip and it was a great time.
