Well, we've got our first L6 comp this Saturday which kicks off a season that, if everything goes right, will last till March. My group of about 9 girls is on track to compete both L6 and L7, and it's looking possible. So we've just got to get through these meets and bring it! I'm asking for good luck for myself, but also for my team. My group of girls has really come together this summer in solidarity - the drama queen was finally moved up, and everyone on the 2-level track really wants to work hard, so we're cohesive and get along well, despite the age range from 10 to 15 yrs.

So even though they're probably not reading this, especially since most of them are under the 13-yrs limit, I wanted to send out a thank you to my team. I couldn't have done it without you guys! When I broke my foot this summer, it was your encouragement that helped me not panic about losing my skills, your presence that reminded me what I was working for. I've been a loner for so long it's wonderful to have a base of support and friends to work with. We'll never be best buddies since I'm in high school and you're elementary kids, but we're great in the gym together and we're gonna stick it out this Saturday at the meet! We're gonna bring it and bring it good.

I'll be cheering my head off while you do your routines and I know you'll do the same for me. Thank you.

Argh!

Well.
highlight: I got a 9.025 on beam. Broke the 9 barrier, which I'd been trying to do unsuccessfully all last year. The coach said she heard the judge go "nice!" on my rounde-de-jambe in the beginning. Also, before floor my coach was like "Just show it off. You're beautiful to watch when you're not nervous." Did a great back tumbling pass in warm-up.
low points: everything else.
7.6something on bars! I have no idea why! I know the L6 bars judging is harsh and my routine wasn't my best I've ever done but in general I'm the best on bars in my gym. My casts are pretty high usually, maybe not the best in the meet. I stuck my dismount. Some form issues I guess. It was the last event so I was pretty tired. My coaches will tell me on Monday and then I'MMA FIX IT GOOD!
8.25 on vault. Pretty good for a first meet especially since I just started vaulting again after breaking my foot. There was a big deduction for not holding my feet up after leaving the vault table which is probably since I haven't been vaulting to my feet much at all since I started vaulting again. We're gonna work on it hard in practice.
Floor. Not worth mentioning. I TRIPPED going into my last tumbling pass. I didn't notice that I had tripped since I was thinking about the tumbling. I then proceeded to do a round-off on my elbows (I did not notice this either) and slid about four feet on face trying to do a BHS. Freak accident. Will never happen again. Got deducted for no back tuck or BHS. If I had done a so-so back pass (which is to be expected of my back tumbling), coaches said I would've had around an 8.5 which I think is GREAT for a first meet. We'll go with 8.5.

So AA: 7th place with a total failure on floor. Would've been 5th (around a 33) without the fail! Not so bad, especially for the first meet. I think there were about 20 girls in my age group? Plus I was in the same group as girls who were 3.5 yrs younger than me which is in no way fair. Mostly I'm mad that I didn't "bring it" on bars since I know my coaches were kinda counting on me on bars. Team got 2nd place all-around and my beam score helped. If I'd done my best bars we probably would've gotten first.

So I'm determined to bring it on for the next two weeks and I'll prove that I deserve the "place of honor" (going last) on bars. I know my coaches know that I can do a 9.0 routine on bars and if I show them that routine in practice they'll believe in me at the next meet. It was just a first-meet freak out...I have the whole rest of the season to get gold medals.

Peace out.

It sounds like you placed pretty well AA considering how you did on floor. You got all the jitters and nerves out. Now you'll be even more prepared for the 2nd meet!! :)
