I'm having a really hard time getting my front tuck step out, I can't make myself step out. My front tuck is fine, and I have my step out on the tumble track, but I can't get myself to actually step out of it on the floor until I have basically already landed, which is obviously too late lol
Are there any drills that could help me? For front tuck height and timing especially! My coaches haven't given me any drills except trying the actual skill in the floor and the tumble track. I would love any help and advice! Thanks in advance :)

Do you know if you have enough height?
Are you able to open up well to land your front tuck properly upright?

If not, do you know why? It all really depends on the issue: not enough force in your punch, jumping too far forwards, not turning fast enough because you don't tuck aggressively or small enough.

If it's high enough but you just cant step out, maybe you're going too far upwards; you need a bit of momentum. But seeing as you can do it on the tumbl track, that seems less likely.

There are other reasons that could be a factor, but do you think any of htese play a role?

A common drill is doing dive/jump forward roll over a high block so you can practice the second half while having a consistent 'salto' height into the step out.

They use a lot more equipment here, because they are promoting products and not in a time crunch for set up/pack down etc...

Set ups like this can also help, but you need firm forgiving mats.

A front tuck stepout requires significantly more height, rotation, and travel distance than a front tuck to stick; I'd hazard a guess that you're just not getting the power you need. The fact that you can do it fine on tumbletrak reinforces this suspicion.

So I'd forget about the stepout for now and just focus on the front tuck. Make sure you're getting a good tall takeoff. Plyometric strength will also help.
