Hey everyone!
I could really use some advice. I’ve been doing front walkovers on high beam for the past three weeks (I just started back after about four years off), and everything was going great — they felt clean, painless, and consistent.
But yesterday at practice, something weird happened. I was fully warmed up and stretched, and I started practicing my FWO on low beam. On the second half of the skill, my first foot would land fine, but when my second foot was coming down, I’d get this sharp pain in my hip — like I pulled a muscle.
I asked my coaches for feedback, and they came over to see what was going on. When I did it again, they noticed that my hands weren’t lifting off the beam at the same time. We tried it on floor, but the same issue happened, and by then my hip hurt too much to keep going, so I switched to back walkovers instead, which went smoothly and completely fine.
For context, I don’t have any past hip injuries, but lately I’ve been landing a little crooked on my Tsuk vault and have slightly pulled the side of my left upper ankle a few times — I’m not sure if that could be connected or affecting my form, but I thought I’d mention it just in case.
Does anyone have tips or drills to help me get both hands off the beam at the same time during a front walkover? I’m really frustrated because I’ve done this skill so many times before with no issues, and I don’t want to mess it up now.
Thank you for helping!!
