It is tough but suck it up.

113 in the building when we got there to open up yesterday... 97 when we left AFTER the sun had gone down.

Starting to wonder if I need to change my username to "toodamnold"

With all these gyms still holding practices in this heat and humidity, we should coin a new term--Bikram Gymnastics!

Definition: Gymnastics performed in 100 degree heat and humidity.

We have never had gym cancelled or postponed for ANYTHING...100 degree heat; 2 feet of snow; deaths in the family of the coach...even on the day of the meet, if your session is later in the day, you have practice the morning of!!! It seems a bit crazy to me and i fear that the lower levels will burn out with a system like this but it's not my call...

I don't believe that we have ever actually closed, but I know of one occasion where my coaches considered closing due to the fact that it was so hot, and most gymnasts were going to the beach or staying home in the AC instead of coming in to work out in 100+ degree weather! I wasn't in optionals at the time, but my friend said that there were only 3 or 4 girls at practice that night (for the optionals)!

It seems very common to have gyms open with no air conditioner in the heat. I actually feel better knowing that daughters gym is not the only one who does this. Daughter refused to go to practice yeasterday because of the heat and her dad sided with her so she ended up staying home despite me trying to change her mind. Well tonight she is back at practice they usually have early day practice and I know they get breaks and popsicles and drinks. My family who does not understand gymnastics still think it is crazy to have 4 hour practices in 100 degree weather without air.

My gym has no AC and has never closed, even when its over 100 degrees and humid outside. However, we get a lot more breaks for water and little things that make a difference. Also, my coach can decide if he wants to end early (Our practices are 4 hours long and sometimes he thinks that's too much training time with no relief from the heat) so he can decide if we should end an hour early or something, and he allows us to call our parents, or he tells them in the beginning we may end early today. On some days we practice in the early morning before it gets too hot too. But either way, my gyms never closed!

Nope, we go to gym Suckitup too! Kids have been out running laps as well. If I were my DD I would ahve quit years ago, even my eyelids sweat in this weather. Last Weds it was well over 100 so they did end practice a little early, but that was only the one day and they still made sure girls ran laps and conditioned first.

Our gym seems to over air condition. :cold:
