Hey, remember how I said I was gonna be the cake?
That was a lie.
(I actually dressed as my Renaissance Faire character, whose name I now use here and pretty much everywhere on the interwebs)
Ok, its driving me crazy....I don't get the cake thing at all....which I guess is normal? I have never seen or heard of Portal...is that a video game or something? I thought I was up there with my Geek knowledge as I have an 18 YO son who is a gamer / theater geek but he is not here to ask....he is gone at college.
Ok, here's the short version:
Portal is a videogame. The plot of the game (at least to start out) is that you are a test subject at a science lab (known as the Aperture Science Center) testing a new gadget (the portal gun) by using it to get through a series of challenges and obstacle courses. The robotic voice conducting the tests is constantly reminding you that when you finish, you will be rewarded with cake, but you also keep finding notes written on the wall in blood saying "the cake is a lie, the cake is a lie, the cake is a lie." Because of this, "the cake is a lie" has become somewhat of a catchphrase among those familiar with the game.
