How Did I get A Referral?

I have a question (specifically to chalk bucket moderators, but open to anyone). It has in my statistics that I have a referral, and I have no clue why. I'm curious how I got it, but mostly embarrassed because I must have done something bad Can anyone tell me how I could have gotten a referral? Thank you.

not sure what a referal is but I know if you click on the little scales in the upper right hand corner you can give reputation.

Oh thanks so much! Oh wow I feel silly. I totally though I like did something bad! Haha. Ok now I get it. I've always known referrals as a bad thing, but now I know what it is thanks teamgirl!
