Hey guys! I was wondering if yall had any ideas on how to deal with a situation i’m having. I coached Xcel bronze and silver last season but we had three coaches leave so we had to get rid of our bronze team for this season. All of my previous Bronze kids got moved up to Silver but one of them is definitely not ready. I’ve talked to my boss and her family and we decided on her competing as a Bronze until she gets the skills. However, ever since we let her know that she would be competing as a Bronze she’s had the worst attitude. She refuses to take corrections (from anyone not specifically me), she’s snappy with me and the other team coaches, she cheats her conditioning and assignments because “it’s not gonna help anyways”, and i’ve even heard her cussing out some of the coaches including me (she’s 10 for reference). It’s gotten to the point where I want her off my team but my boss only thinks that will make things worse. Any advice?

PS - when I told her she might be competing bronze I also let her know that as soon as she got the required skills she could compete silver.

I recommend talking to her parents ASAP to figure out a solution and maybe in a worse case scenario, cut her off the team if this continues. Cussing out anyone, especially coaches is completely unacceptable.
Yeah i’ve talked to her grandparents about it (they have custody) and they did a full 180 on me. They were part of the discussion in deciding what she was going to compete and fully agreed with me about her competing Bronze but now when i bring up attitude problems it’s all because im “forcing” her to compete bronze

She literally doesn’t even have a pullover anymore there’s no chance she can compete silver without that

Our gym has the team girls and parents sign a contract about what is acceptable and the steps that will be taken if unacceptable behavior is shown. Three strikes and you are off the team.
we have contracts as well, but i can’t enforce it without my boss and she thinks that it’s something i need to wait out instead of enforcing the rules stated in the contract.

have a meeting with grandparents with your boss, clearly state her behavioral violation of the contracts, list incident time and bring witness, give them a verbal warning that if this happens again, she will be off the team, in regardless to her skill level, make sure her skills and level has nothing to do with this, this is solely on her behavior.
