Update: interview went really really well and pay is decent. Still don’t have it completely yet but it’s looking good! Minimum wage here is 12.41 and for the first 10 days when I’m being trained it’s 13 per hour (I’m shadowing another coach’s class) , then it goes up to 14 when I have my own class. If I work more than 3 days per week then I get 15 an hour. This stuff is pretty good imo. The application I filled out upon arrival asked for prior work experience and put babysitting where I got 12.50 for one child and 15 for her and her sibling at the same time. I have a working interview tomorrow that I’m now nervous for. This is what makes or breaks the job and I really want it! The coaches are so nice and a lot of them are my age or just barely older. What do you guys suggest for the working interview? It’s from 9-1.

Energy!

Coaching is, before all else, theater. Your first, last, and most important job is to captivate your audience, to be big and loud and fun and enthusiastic. If you've ever seen anything with Jim Carrey or Robin Williams, that's the sort of big cartoonish energy you want to have.

UPDATE: I got the job, and am now obtaining a work permit from my state since I’m under 16. Will probably be working Thursdays and Saturdays (they require every employee to work either a Friday or Saturday because “if we don’t then we won’t have enough people to open on those days”) and upping hours a lot over the summer. I’m so excited!

CONGRATS!! I coach rec and it's SO fulfilling. Genuinely amazing to be able to help younger gymnasts the same way my coaches do for me.
