Hi guys, well first of all, my name is Laura, and I'm new on here. Also, I'm a level 7 gymnast.
I wanted to post this to just vent I guess..
I haven't been able to go to gymnastics in over 3 months because of my stupid foot!! I have a disease in my bone, but I'm not sure what it's called, 'cause I can't even pronounce it. It has something to do with my growth plate (third metatarsal) and my tendon always sticking out. Anyways, I just want to go back to gym! I'm sooo annoyed and upset! I had to take a month off in the summer because of it, and another 2 months back in December..I just want to go back full force, but everytime I do, my foot starts to really hurt so then I have to stop, and then take a long time off. The doctor says I might need surgery if the MRI isn't good (I have to get an MRI sometime soon), or a boot. My whole family says that it's time to pack gymnastics in, but I don't want to!! I still love gymnastics, and I'm not ready to quit! :( The doctors think that too..
I want to get back by next month ATLEAST because I have a gymnastics camp at the end of July, and I don't want to be in the lowest team there is. The last time I took a long time off, I lost basicaly all of my skills and had to restart..It's just not fair! All of my friends are gaining new skills like everyday, and I just start crying thinking that that could be me. I know I have to follow the doctors orders, but a part of me just doesn't care what the doctors think..I just want to go back, and work through the pain. But no one will let me do that.

Absolutely do not disobey your doctor. If they so no gymnastics, that's that. Disobeying your doctor could make your issue more severe. Try to go easy on your family and coaches for holding you back, it is whats best for you even though it's upsetting. Spend time with friends, smell the roses outside the gym. If you make a concerted effort to take of yourself, and it's an option later, gymnastics will still be there.

Listen to your doctors and parents, they want what's best for you long term, even if it doesn't feel like that right now. The body you have now is the one you need to keep for the rest of your life, treat it well! Not every body is made to withstand the demands of competitive gymnastics, it's just how it is. And it sucks when you end up being one of those people, but there are plenty of ways to continue to enjoy gymnastics and still preserve your body for the many years you have ahead.

better to pay now. or pay, by never doing gymnastics again in the event that you come back wrongly, later.
