Ok so say your gymnast has sprained their ankle and its not bad enough to need medical treatment and they are going to tape their ankle the next training session to help prevent them from respraining their ankle.

What is the ideal method if:
-It hurts slightly to point and flex
-Its typical rolled ankle sprain

Mods if this is asking for too much of a medical advice question feel free to close it i wasn't sure if this took it too far or not.

It is hard to explain in a post, there are several youtube videos on it. I found this one YouTube - ankle tape It covers most of the different ankle taping steps, but IMO he goes a bit overboard especially for a more mild sprain. I use one anchor at the top one on the foot, 2 stirups, no horse shoes, the 2 medial and 2 lateral heal locks and 2 figure 8's finishing off with basically another anchor to keep the end of the last figure 8 in place. Hope that helps.

Another thing, taping becomes expensive depending on how much you train, it is the best method for a fresh sprain and if it is bad sometimes you need tape and a brace, but after a while you could have her get a good brace, the lace up types are best.

10.0 is right. Unless it is a very mild sprain you are better off getting a brace, and the lace up ones are the best. It will save you money in the long run, it is easy and quick to use, it provides as good or better support, and it can be used as long as needed. After 2 sprains in the same ankle, dd wears her brace for every practice and meet. Good luck to your dd.
