Hello, I am a new assistant coach currently running open gyms at a HS gym. One of the gymnasts wants to work on an onodi tic-toc, which I know is a skill in the FIG CoP but I don't have a copy of the IHSA rules book, and am wondering if it is still credited as a skill in high school. It's a beautiful skill and I would love to have her learn it. She wants to connect it to a LOSO, instead of her current BHS LOSO series. Could anyone anyone with the rules manual double check this for me? Appreciate it!

I don't have any specific advice, but thanks for the reminding me about a innovative beam routine of the past.

Has your athlete been watching Gael Mackie?

There seems to be a be a few athletes doing Onodi's who really don't have the flexibility to make it look good or gain from it. I wouldn't bother unless your athlete is flexible enough.

Long term - Can you get a copy of the rules from the school? If it's not listed - I would contact whoever is in charge within the state and ask for a provisional rating.

She has been watching Mackie! Love her onodi variations.
As for the flexibility, she's done some on the floor and it looks quite nice imo. I think it would be received well by judged, as long as the variation is recognized as a skill.
Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to get a copy of the book from her school until season starts 😭 I'd assume the value would be the same as a regular onodi, though, just like the FIG code.

You can purchase the printed rules book for $10, but they aren't currently available. There is also a digital version: https://nfhs.org/about/nfhs-digital
I found a resource that said roughly: A skills are Mediums, B skills are Superiors, C skills are High Superiors, and D skills are Advanced High Superiors.
That would make the Onodi (to tic-toc)-LOSO which is a D-C an Advanced High Superior - High Superior earning bonus.

Good to know! The only thing throwing me off is in the online judges manual that lists HS and AHS skills for nfhs, the onodi is described only as a flic flic half twist to fwd walkover; no mention of the tic toc variation. But then again, I'm sure other variations like the one handed onodi and onodi to arabesque would be credited, it just worries me that the tic-toc might be too different to receive value credit. Man, I don't know 😬
