What are some stretches that will help me be able to do an illusion?

Also, what is the proper way to do an illusion?

Any help is much appreciated :)

Look up a needle scale.

Swing the torso down as you swing your back leg back. You can use your hands while turning on your foot but eventually get away from that.

What helped me be able to do an illusion is think of it as a one handed cartwheel with a quick spin in the middle. That's what my gymn teammate told me, and I got it, and she's awesome at Illlusions..she even has one in her floor routine!! She's starting to work them on beam as well.

Hope that helps!!

a great drill I ahve used to teach illusions are to have the gymnast hold onto a hanging rope (like one use you for rope climbing exercises in the gym) as you snap down into the needle and spin. It really helps you maintain balance without using your hands.

thanks, those help!

any other stretching suggestions so my hips are more flexible?

Umm.

Lie on your back with a straight leg touching the floor, and grab the other leg as close to your face as possible? Don't do it too far..don't want you to pull any muscles and whatnot!
