Injured :(

Well I'm still fairly new to gym but it looks like I am going to have to give it up for a bit. We had an ice storm here and I was outside yesterday and ended up with a broken ankle today. I'm really bummed out because I was just starting to really like gymnastics and I don't really want to be away from it. I've always been really active and I can't really do much of anything athletic if I can barely stand up. Being bummed out is almost worse than the pain! Anyone have any advice for what to do with a lot of new found free time? I'm not used to it, don't know what to do with myself. :(

Being injured is really frustrating but there are still things you can do. One of the girls from my club had to have ankle surgery which took her out for 18months (she still has about 8to go) but we still regularly see her at the gym and she comes and plays a bit of a coaching role and will throw mats in and stuff, as well as just socialising with everyone. Because we do trampoline, she can do a bit of back bouncing too but not much else. In a proper gym you could do bits of conditioning once your ankle starts to set like sit ups and pull ups if your coaches and doctors would allow it.

I would suggest that you keep going to the gym from time to time just to see everyone and ask your dr if you can do some upper body conditioning before your cast is off or your treatment is over.

Good luck and it'll be fixed before you know it!
