Ok, talk to me about knee sprains and recovery. My L9 gymnast has been pretty fortunate thus far and other than some broken toes, has never really dealt with injuries. She landed wrong on a front pass and injured her knee. We saw a PA at an ortho clinic who diagnosed her with a sprain, but didn’t really give clear directions on recovery instructions and timelines. He seemed to suggest she could return to practice in a few days if she felt up to it, but she still has pain after a week.

We do have a follow up visit scheduled, but just looking to see other personal experiences in the meantime. How long should we expect in recovery, did your gymnast take a complete rest or still worked bars, etc. Thanks in advance!

I'd advise to try to check if ligaments are ok. I was initially diagnosed with a knee sprain for an ACL injury and one of my gymnasts also. So in case she goes back, go very slow and if she feels any unsteadiness on the knee check it up again with the doctors.
I went back to training and my knee gave up trying a back walkover.
I think she can work no leg conditioning and bars in a safe environment (like a pit)
