Not sure what I am actually going to do with this info but it's been on my mind.....

Our floor coach is wonderful but there have been a few instances this season where there seems to be confusion about deductions as it relates to composition of a routine.

My daughter was told that if her switch leap and straddle jump meet or exceeds 180 degrees, she no longer needs to compete a connected front pass, and she can instead do a single front tuck or front pike. Can anyone tell me if this is true? She can easily complete the connected front pass if she needs to, but her coach is telling her she doesn't need it.

That is incorrect. The 180 split is required regardless, as is the connected front pass.

a backwards acro series which includes a back salto that is directly connected to a flight element- this could be roundoff back-handspring back-layout*

a front acro series that includes a front salto — this could be front handspring–front tuck*

one salto that is in the layout position (no twist) and lands on two feet – so either a front or back layout to two feet

dance passage with minimum of two different skills, one a leap with 180 degree split

360 degree turn on one foot

Ugh. I was afraid of this. My daughter was explicitly told that she doesn't need to do the front across series. I am not sure what to do? While I really love this coach she would not be appreciative of my daughter (or me) questioning her direction.

What is the deduction if she only does a single front tuck/pike instead of a series? Her other series is a roundoff back handspring back layout. Her leaps and jumps are definitely at 180, she does a 360 full turn as well.

Here are the current requirements.
A strict interpretation of this wording "1 with Salto forward (add'l elements allowed)" could lead a coach to believe that the as long as she has her 2 B skills in her leaps/jumps, that she could do a single front salto pass.

If she hasn't had her first met yet, she should listen to the coach. Just pay attention when they flash the Start Value. If it is not 10.0, the coach should submit a formal inquiry (and then the coach could get verification of the rule).

If you don't want to question the coach, maybe your daughter could ask to do the front series and say that it would be good to compete it this year to help be more prepared for level 8.
