I am 16 years old and I’m 5’1 and I want to start competitive gymnastics and possibly make it to the 2016 Olympics. I am still really flexible but not in really good shape. Being in the Olympics is one of my highest goals in life and it means the most to me. I love gymnastics well both rhythmic gymnastics and artistic but I don’t know what one to go in. I know how to do a round-off back handspring (with a light spot), front handspring, round-off, back walkover, front walkover, cartwheel, splits-left, right ,middle, cartwheel on beam, round-off. Do you think I am too old to make it to the Olympics? What level do you think I am??

you are probably level 4.. can you do bars? they also have rythmic gymnastics in the olympics soif you are really flexible you could make that your goal.

i think youre skills are equivalent to a level four, at-least on floor and beam with a few level five skills. ( IE cartwheel on beam, front handspring, front handspring over vault.) Its possible, i think. 8 years to get to elite from level four? i would say you'd have to be really talented, dedicated and willing to throw away youre social life on a chance. I mean, Krista Jasper made elite in a little over four year span ( i think.) You're n e v e r too old for gymnastics! If youre dream is elite ( or the Olympics.) , then i say go for it. Shoot for the moon, and even if you don't make it you'll land among the stars!

so you think i should keep going and i have the talent for it??? i train saturdays from 4:30pm-6:00pm right after my class is open gym should i stay after???

well, i think youre going need more then 2n1/2hrs once a week to reach the elite level.Yes, i think you should keep going. I won't be the one to judge who has talent and who does not. :)!

Does your gym have a competitive team? If you are serious about getting to such a high level, you will need to go to a gym with not only a competitive team but also an elite program. You will need to train several times the amount you do now, and you will only go more hours as you progress. Considering that you seem to have gotten pretty far with the small amount of training you've been getting, I think you'll do very well in a team program. In the mean time, definitely take every chance to practice.

we do have a competitive team but idk wat level am i bc some people say that im level 4 and 5 one person said that im 7.we have a team 4,5,6,7,and 8-10 competitive teams. i got my first front handspring the day i had my first practice and i taught my self how to do a backwalk over.

It's taken me a while to get to where I am but I didn't start going more than once a week and competing until 3 years ago so you probably have a chance.

You are about a level 4-5 depending on what you can do on the bars
