My 15 year old level 10 gymnast wants to go elite. She recently made this decision after thinking she wanted to do college gymnastics.

She has all bar ans vault skills on Fig andnis basically missing one additional release on bars and is working on her tsuk full. She has a great tsuk layout currently. On bars she has a Jaeger, bail and is working on her maloney. If she works really hard does she have a decent chance.?

Her coach thknks she can do it if she really focuses on the goal.

Thanks for any advise you can offer.

She does not have to be an elite to do college gymnastics.. if it were me i would concentrate on being the very best level 10 she can be! Did she go to nationals at a level 10?
She went to nationals as a level 10, yes. She recently decided that she wants elite before college of she makes it. She has a very strong floor including double pike, double back tuck and a full in and a strong beam with double back dismount and front tuck mount.
She is a bit weakernon bars.

Just go on You Tube and watch the Sr. Elites

Does her gym currently train Elite? It doesn’t sound like she has much time to get and perfect the skills she’ll need for Elite. Focusing on being a solid college recruit seems more realistic.

She has just turned 15, so she will have one year of junior to try for. She wants to just make it for now. (not necessarily be the most competitive) Its a goal of hers aporantly. Her gym currently trains elite

No if she 15 now she will have to go Sr. Elite because she will be 16 in 2026. Don’t know where you are getting your info from but it’s wrong.

Just look at Gabbie Hardy she’s 15 and she’s a Sr. Elite because her birthday is in like November. They don’t care for what month they turn 16. Your kid can be 15 and her birthday is December 31st. Once January 1st hits you have to try for Sr. Elite

Just out of curiosity, at what age to most kids make the decision to try for elite? Would it be common to make the decision as a teenager once they've become a strong level 8, 9, or 10, or are these kids typically already training with that goal in mind at 7 or 8 years old (e.g., starting homeschool, full-time training)? I'm asking more as a fan of this amazing sport. My 6yo daughter has no elite aspirations and is just trying to make the team at her gym. :)

Most girls that go Elite have been training for Elite for years at this point. Your daughter is 15 now, meaning next year she turns 16 which means she will be considered a senior. If your kiddo is ready to put in 30 hours a week in the gym and has the ability to get skills and perfect them in less than a year from now, then there is no harm in trying? As I am sure you know by her already being a level 10, its very hard on their bodies! You said she did go to nationals, how did she do?

Thanks for the great feedback. Yes she will try at qualifers and will see what happens😅

She already trains 29 hours a week 😊

I don't think there is any harm in trying. It sounds like her vault is the weakest event- working a tsuk full isn't close to a senior elite vault. Ty's Dad is correct that Elite ages are different than the DP age group types of competitions. Everyone has a "birthday" on Jan 1 in elite so she would be a Sr. Elite next season.

I would just make sure your gym is willing to have 1 kid "try" in what will be a very expensive and time consuming endeavor before your daughter gets her hopes up. Are they willing to pay 1 coach for additional training/traveling/competing for 1 gymnast- in a season that traditionally runs in addition to and mostly after the DP season? Are you willing and able to make the time commitment as a family (no vacations, etc.)? Can you financially support the extra travel, meet fees, etc. for yourself and the coach?

Just wanted to give you some extra things to think about. Good luck1

A tsuk layout full is a 4.4 D? Not a yuchenko double full but not bad...

I would say if it is a goal of hers and her coaches are for it, give it a try.
Probably she won't be very competitive with the skills you mentioned, but it doesn't sound so bad either for qualifying to elite and maybe competing at classics.
