My daughter is competing L4 for the first time. She can do her cartwheel on beam and squat on but freezes when it’s time to compete. I have searched, but can’t find an answer. I’m assuming it’s better to have her coach spot her rather than for her to bail on the skill and fall!

Any advice or anyone know the difference in deduction of having a spot vs falling and not getting the skill.

This really falls to the coach to decide and to inform you off the choice they have made. This choice will be based on the gym rules/requirements and for some gyms that is scratching the event. Usually coaches choose what is best for your child long term vs getting a slightly better (but still not great) score.

Worrying about what option scores best is misguided. Your child's long term growth, development and confidence is key. It is important that your child is not aware of your concern over scores/ or if she falls - just make sure she knows you are proud of her no matter what and she will get there in her own time.
