Awesome (well on the scores not the elevator or pink eye)! Would love to see video of her improvement.

Yikes! Trapped in an elevator!?! You are stronger than I. Think I'm taking the stairs from now on!!! Glad you are okay and that she rocked her meet!!

(please tell me someone got my Tesla reference? I can't be the only rockstar
..) Anyway...so 'ol Puma Jr just had her best meet of the season! Again, do remember it's all relative here...your kids would still be crying over these scores lol. She is still yet to make the podium this season, but this morning was her best vault, best bars, best floor and best AA of the season! It wasn't a great beam, but even with a notoriously tough judge good enough for an 8.0, so nothing below an 8 either! She stayed on everything, which is very important to her, but more importantly she overall just looked so much better. She's really working on all the little things like legs together, toes pointed ect.. The little things that really matter. And she made all her goals. We are 8 months into the new gym now and I think some things are finally starting to click. Thanks for everyone's interest and support on this crazy journey! :)
After our last couple meets, we have L4s that would kill for 8s ... tough bar judges 2 weeks in a row ... a vault judge that apparently does not like handsprings unless they are perfect at 2 of our last 3 meets, and a reflex beam this time that they couldnt manage to stay on.
Great job Puma Jr. Keep on keeping on!

Wow....what a weekend the Puma's had.....congrats to little Puma and I hope your eye is all cleared up.[/QUOTE

Great job Puma Jr. Keep on keeping on![/QUOTE Thank you! Obviously, 9s are the goal eventually, but I have to be realistic and celebrate the small victories. And I know it's not about comparing to teammates, but they are a good reference point and she's starting beat a few here and there on events. She actually tied two teammates for AA this meet. It's just nice to not be DFL on everything!

Thanks! I'll send you video of October then yesterday. She still has a long way to go, but the difference is striking.

How exciting! Congrats to her for all her hard work! And crazy about the elevator, vomiting, and pink eye! You are always so positive and it's really refreshing to hear!

I'm still so impressed on the improvements shes made - especially bars and floor. It's huge. I can tell she is a super hard worker. When's her next meet?
Thank you!!! Again, she still has a long way to long. That floor routine still came in dfl! This year is so much more competative...she has one more mid April then states May 21/22. Hopefully she can improve a little more by then. Then she'll have 5 months to prove herself worthy for L5. She "has" everything (except the flyaway which she lost halfway through last season) but I want (and I know the coaches will want) her to HAVE it. Big difference, I've found...

It wouldn't hurt to repeat level 4 either. Having the skills and being clean on the skills are, as you know, quite different. And you have also seen that putting the total package of a routine together is more than just doing the skills. If she repeats 4 she would have a chance to work on the details that will be needed for the rest of her gym career: amplitude, hands, tight legs, etc. She's young, she can take her time moving up.

I agree with this. If it was level 3 I would say go to 4. But level 4 is such a basics builder - handspring vault, kips, high bar, etc. that working on details might be beneficial in the long run.

Obviously I will support whatever the coaches say, but she would absolutely flip out if she had to repeat L4. There was a team meeting a couple weeks ago and one mom asked about next season and HC said the plan was for the whole group to move up. It did cross my mind that perhaps Puma Jr was the exception, but HC never said anything to me either way. The first meet of the new season wouldn't be until December, so I certainly shan't be asking anytime soon. You do have to remember too that we are in a much less competitive area than a lot of you guys, so I assume the standards may be different? She started this L4 season without a consistent kip and I know that wouldn't fly in many places. A lot of our L5s were still struggling with flyway, ROBHSBT Ect at the beginning of this season. Again, it's totally up to the coaches. I hope they let me know this summer if repeating is an option because she would be devastated and I would want to prep her for it. It is what it is though, right?!

Congrats to your DD on a great meet!

My 10yo DD is a level 4 repeater and while she wasn't happy about it at first but she sees now that she needed the extra time to get solid on bars which was the event she struggled on last year, now she has a lovely high cast on low and high bars, nice big swings and her legs are finally together on her dismount. She certainly could have moved up to L5, she was scoring 35-36s fairly consistently, but why set her up for another okay season if she could stay back, work on perfecting her skills and have a super season? Now she's in a great spot for a move up to L5 next year to harder skills with her really solid foundation of good form on basics and the confidence of some great results to give her a boost.

Repeating 4 does happen. As does repeating 3 because one isn't ready for 4. But time is on her side. She may be just fine. Whatever happens will be for the best, and the coaches will figure it out. Meanwhile, it is awesome she is doing so well!!!
