Our gym splits meet fees (registration, coach fees and coach travel fees) evenly across all gymnasts x meets attending.

For example, if 100 gymnasts, 50 attending 5 meets and 50 attending 7. Total costs are divided by 600 (50×5)+(50×7).

Then, the 50 that are attending 5 pay slightly less than the 50 attending 7.

This is across all levels (JO & Xcel).

However, even thogh the Xcel meets are all in state, so much more limited travel, hotels typically not needed, the cost per meet is the same as the JO levels that have multiple out of state, full weekend coaching needed.

Is this normal? Xcel ends up not being that much cheaper for those members (main cost savings is monthly fees because of less practice hours, and personal travel expenses with no out of state meets).

It really just depends on how the club wants to do it.

Yes. I have been at clubs that did it that way. It seems unfair, but it balances out over time. Plus if the upper levels make it to regionals/nationals, that adds more expense.

At my dd's first gym, each gymnast paid the registration fee for only the meets that she was attending. All meets were mandatory except if you had something extremely important that you couldn't miss. The coaches' fees were different for each level depending on the distance of the meets, number of girls in level, the number of meets, etc.

At the second gym where she did Xcel, we paid registration and coaches' fees for each meet that we signed her up for. There were only a few mandatory meets and the rest were optional. The meets were usually less than a 2 hour drive. The DP team's meets were all mandatory but I don't know how they worked out the fees.

We assess meet fees by level and coaching travel costs for away meets that just certain groups attend... but we do spread some coach meet pay and travel across the whole team (separate for DP and xcel). With only a few L10s, it's not fair for them to shoulder the cost of their post season meets. Spreading it across the whole team equals about $20-30 a gymnast. I feel it's fair because it will pay forward when others get there. There is still about $1000 difference in what L2 and L10 pays.
