My daughter recently left a gym she had been at for years and we don't know where to go. She was on silver xcel last year and did extremely well at state, but this first year of gold was rough with one of the new coaches. My daughter doesn't do well with cruel or humiliating comments in front of the team, so she felt broken down over the season and had some injuries as well. Where could she go for a positive silver/gold/platinum xcel program near us (Kenmore area)? Any insight would be helpful and driving up to 30-45 min. is ok for a great program.

BGC would be my first recommendation. When athletes we know tried to switch there in the past, some levels were full; they do a great job of retaining athletes but it makes it hard to join from another gym. High quality gymnastics with in-the-spirit-of-xcel hours.
Inside scoop on the process - we keep track of all the inquiries we get all year. There are usually over a dozen. Then at the end of season, we invite people to come to a week long trial based on where we think we have space and who seems like a good fit. We try as hard as we can to accommodate as many people as possible, but yes, there are so many athletes who have been at this gym since they were little kids and they do tend to stick around.
