Hi everyone,

I'm new here. My daughter is new to gymnastics. After a year of recreational classes with other 5 year olds, she has been placed on the Level 3 team for the fall (she turned 6 in March). She's excited but I'm very nervous! She'll be practicing 4 hours a week in the fall and will have 3 competitions this year. I know nothing about gymnastics as I was a competitive swimmer. I can easily identify with the time and commitment as I was training hard at a young age too. Any advice? She really seems to love it so I want to encourage her without being pushy.

welcome!!

welcome to the CB!! you will find this site a lifesaver!!
I know just how you feel, as my dd is competing for the first time this fall, too. She's 7 and a level 4. I also have a 9 yr old son on preteam. Neither one has done gym very long, either, so its pretty new to us, too.
My advice is, just be her biggest cheerleader, let her coaches do what you pay them to do...coach, and, oh, yes, bring your checkbook!! lol.

Seriously, its hard not to push them when you see their potential, but they will get enough of that from their coaches, and if she really loves it, you don't want to turn her off of it by pushing too much. Hopefully, she will enjoy many, many happy years in this sport!

Best of luck to your dd this season, and to you too!! Keep us posted on how she's doing!!

Welcome to CB! You'll learn lots around here as there seems to be lots of parents whose children have just started competing. My dd had her first competition season this spring level 3 and she's training level 4 right now. It's so exciting to watch their progress and to see how excited they are. Good luck!

Hi there! My DD is 7, she trains 4 hours a week and has just competed level 1 this year. She loves it but is very hard on herself so I give her heaps of encouragement. I do find it very exciting and I'm so proud of her! I think you have some advantage having been in a competitive sport yourself, I never did any sport competitively.

Welcome to ChalkBucket, I am new here as well. My 7 year old DD has only been in gymnastics for almost 2 years and is now going Level 6 and Level 7 in January. Can't believe she has progressed so quickly. I hope all goes well with your DD and that her competition season starts off great!!! Keep us updated with the progress!!
