That is awful. I don't understand how the university does not move on this. These people clearly have a terrible reputation in the sport and they are doing damage to young women......

Saw an article in USA today that Joe Paterno was warned about Jerry Sandusky in the 1970's. If the school can ignore that it will ignore anything!

My sons dream was to be on the gymnastics team at Penn state......this is the one time I'm glad he quit in high school. Penn State Athletics seems to have a deep malignancy running through it.
(Even though the men's program is clean so far)

Hearing these things makes me sick. I can't believe what has happened. And then at the meets it is all smiles and hugs and happy. Ugh!

I generally don't read comments after any article because they are bound to make me mad, but for some reason I ventured into the ones following this article and some are truly atrocious. Talk of coddled young adults unable to handle pressure/competition/not being the best- things that most gymnasts come to terms with a few seasons into competing.
Something needs to be done here, perhaps a total revamp of all athletic programs at PSU?

This story just came out saying that Joe Paterno was told as early as 1978 that Jerry Sandusky was a child molester. It's clear that it takes a little bit of time in Happy Valley for wrong-doing to be handled appropriately. Unfortunately, lives of young men and women will likely be shattered until then. Keep up the Traditions of Student Athlete Neglect at Penn State, Sandy Barbour!

For anyone concerned about the situation at Penn State, there is a petition circulating to try to drive an independent investigation into the allegations against the Thompsons. There are a ton of current and former gymnasts, both from Penn and Auburn, as well as coaches, and PSU athletes, students and alumni commenting as well
