Reality is all USA really needs is Simone, Laurie, Aly and Madison or Ashton to cover Aly's bars. When picking the 5th, primary consideration is trying to cover the next strongest relative "weakness", which is Simone's bars, and someone who can fill in on the other events if needed. Gymnastically Gabby ticks those boxes. If there was someone else who could also tick those boxes, it would make a decision by Marta to leave her a whole lot easier.

I agree whole heartedly, but knowing what we know about Gabby (and her family), do you think she'll be content in that role? Last thing team USA needs is someone pouting in the corner, complaining to the media they've been slighted. The Olympics are stressful enough without extra drama.

Don't know...but there is literally no other gymnast capable of putting up a 15+ on bars and reasonably strong on vault and fx to balance the bar specialist. Brenna is the only one that comes close to that description and I don't think that's going to happen. Marta has some really tough choices to make.

I wouldn't put Gabby on beam at the Olympics after she fell both nights on a relatively easy turn at trials. She could do vault if needed, in addition to bars....

well, patterson fell two times at trials off beam and went on to win the thing. as is said before: performance is more than what you show at trials.

While I don't disagree with a lot said, i just want to clarify that night two she did the turn beautifully and fell on a more difficult skill- her back full.
