My athlete is a former cheerleader, so she has all the right skills but not technique. She has incredible power when she tumbles and tumbles very fast which leads to her having no control over it, making it hard to fix bad habits and teach new skills. It also causes her to tumble fast on the beam, which makes her unable to control her movements and impacting even learning the basics. Her vault and beam are fine for now, but how can I help my athlete, and is there anything I can have her do at home?

I don't know much since I'm just a gymnast myself and most of the time it's gymnasts who turn out as really good cheerleaders. I haven't seen the other way around before. But I recommend scheduling a meeting with the coaches and discussing a solution or if they have any ideas of how to handle this. Just wondering- how long has she been doing gymnastics? and how old is she?

I have experience with learning things on my own and then having to go back and fix the form. It's hard to fix the technique and bad habits. It takes a while especially if you have been doing the habits constantly for a long time, but if you're committed to becoming a better gymnast, you can do it. You need to focus and have a strong brain-to-body connection. What helped me fix some of my form was recording the skill and watching to see my habits in slow motion. I hope this helps!
