ive been having truble with my tumbling. i can not do just a straight back layout anymore, i just start twisting. my coach says i just have to do it but whatever i try i still twist. I also am recently having this problem with front tucks and front layouts. This is really frustrating me and im afraid i will get hurt. any suggestions? (oh and we dont have a foam pit ) This is really making me frustrated and i am feeling like i want to quit because of it. :(

it's just a stage, very common, and lots of gymnasts go thru this. don't quit! if you have a trampoline, get on it and somi backwards and forwards. do standing flip-flop layouts and standing front handspring lay out fronts. take your time. it will come back. and sometimes it is very helpful to make certain your EYES ARE WIDE OPEN when doing these basics. it is common to feel a loss of balance. when this happens the gymnast usually shuts their eyes just about as tight as one can close them. this will 'scare' you even more coupled with with sense that you are out of balance.

coaches...this is another example of one's vestibular system going awry. in time it will stabilize.
