It wouldn't make sense to need 2 vaults to qualify for AA. You just need to be able to compete on every apparatus to qualify for AA. To be a vault specialist, you need two different vaults. It makes sense.

Yes, to be a vault specialist. It is still a double standard. To get a vault medal you need 2 vaults, but to be the AA champion or top 3, you only need 1 vault? The AA champion should be expected to have 2 vaults because they are supposed to be the best. I just think the gymnasts that work incredibly hard to have a top vault with a decent score still deserve some recognition. It wouldn't make sense to need 2 vaults to qualify for AA. There is a chat in the appHey chalk bucket mods - you should make a live chat thing (like on most live youtube streams, but by chalkbucket)

I do think it's weird that anyone competing all-around is automatically eligible for all event medals except vault. A lot of great gymnasts and great vaulters never wind up competing two vaults (e.g. Biles)
Putting myself out here a bit: I think McCusker is a beautiful gymnast, and there's definitely a lot of hype surrounding her, but honestly, has she ever HIT a competition? Like, 4 for 4? I feel like I haven't seen her really live up to the hype yet. I know there's time, and if the goal is to peak in 2020, I get it. I don't know, she just always appears stressed to me.
@bookworm...I agree. She does seem really frail. I can't understand for the life of me why Maggie has her doing so many double saltos on floor. She seems like she'd be a much better twister. She looks so slow during all the saltos and frequently lands short...looks like an injury waiting to happen.
She is a great bar/beam kid...but I really think she's going to get passed up quick in the AA by the time Tokyo comes around (already is). Especially with all these up and coming juniors. I think there is too much hype around her. She's a beautiful gymnast...but she's certainly no powerhouse.
Exactly my thoughts! Especially where she competed a yurchenko full this weekend I figured it was because she had been injured. But basically either the full or the fall on the floor ( or whatever it was) allowed Chiles to beat her for second. And I agree , she seems to be a slow flipper on the floor...her body type, a la Nastia back in the day, looks better suited to twisting.
And can we talk about Maggie's love of the tkatchev ...piked, toe on piked, stalder...I get it, she loves the Tkatchev but how about a Comaneci or a Hindorf for variety? Heck, even a Yaeger![]()

Or doing two wolf turns in a row.I think they should award bonus points to people for not doing a wolf turn on beam/floorSeriously, I'm getting very tired of watching poorly executed wolf turns. (I know some people do have very good wolf turns though)
