Safe? As in worried about physical safety and coaching practices? Or safe as in worried that whatever team you are on may be discontinued?

From a continuity standpoint, no. Would not intentionally join one, but they haven’t been super transparent during their transactions so I don’t fault anyone who’s been caught up in the mess. I would actually be concerned if I was in an area with Powers gyms, because there’s the likelihood of a non-powers program being asked to absorb large numbers of gymnasts if and when a program closes.

I certainly wouldn't choose to go to one of their gyms if you have any other choices. We essentially wasted two years trying to "stick with them" when they bought our gym before they systematically dismantled it and went bankrupt and shut it down.

My daughter is wanting to go to a gym that is owned my powers, just nervous about the risks.

Worried about the program will shut down. It is the only other gym we have nearby, and my daughter loves their gym, its huge and has tons of equipment.

You should read through the other threads to see if Xcel specifically is mentioned. It seems most of the program shutdowns have been with DP but I could be wrong. Maybe someone here who has knowledge of Xcel at Powers can chime in. If it's your only gym option though then I guess it's and 'eyes wide open' kind of situation.

They just shut down DP at the gym, this week. 😓

We're at a Powers owned gym, I believe it might be the only one left with a DP program? It's arguably the best gym in the area if you're looking at who is sending gymnasts to NCAA so we have no plans of leaving unless forced. My daughter loves her coaches and is very happy. We also haven't heard anything from the owners since they originally bought the gym back in 2022, and they haven't really changed anything, other than price increases, as far as how the team program is run.

Are they based out of Nashville? Our gym owner said something last week about turning down an offer to buy our gym “from a lady in Nashville” and we are in one of the states the Powers group is buying in…wonder if we almost became a Powers gym…
