Coaches Question about petitioning into DP

I'm aware that there's a possibility of petitioning into DP L7 (from Xcel), but the child must be 12. Is it 12 years old when petitioning or 12 years old for the season? My daughter will be 11.5 next summer and her bday falls late Decemeber to turn 12. Thanks!

Good question! Your daughter would have to be 12 to compete level 7 as an xcel petition athlete but I don’t know if your state might be willing to start processing the paperwork early (with an effective date starting on your daughter’s birthday) so you can register on time for level 7 meets that will be held after her birthday. Perhaps you can register and note that your petition is pending. That’s something for your coach to ask whomever handles petitions for your state.
