I started a new thread since this got way off topic on the Artistry thread. Dunno after I finished giggling after reading your insult slung at me that I don't understand anything about the US Health System, I decided to respond. OK, I am still chuckling at that one.
And PS, go ahead and take a run on the World Cup course at Kitzebuhel. If you live to tell the tale, I might listen to you about easy it is. In the mean time I will give more credibility to the opinion of actual elite skiiers (yes I am acquainted with two of them).

I am perfectly aware that the waivers are required for a gymnastics gym's liability insurance. And your liability insurer wants to make darn sure you and therefore they are not responsible for medical costs for gymnast injuries. You bet they have something to do with each other. I wasn't griping. I was responding to your post that I was so clueless about how dangerous gymanstics is. My point was simple, Sure I do. Who do you think pays the bills? The parents and their employers. All health care costs are getting enormously expensive for employers, but sports injuries are just a small drop in the bucket.
Hmmm....oh the universities. You said they have very detailed statistics on medicals costs of gymanstics athletic injuries. Please fill in the blanks:
Are NCAA scholarship gymnast athletes encourage to carry private insurance (which basically means their parents plans)?
What percentage of NCAA gymnasts carry insurance on their parents' plants?
Athlete's private plans such as through their parents (coverage not through the school) are primary (they pay first), are subject to HIPAA privacy regulation, and the universities do not compile data on how much they are paying. They don't have access to that data. And they are bearing more of the cost than the university plans. Yes, there are some students who only carry the university plan, but they are the minority.

I'd be interested to hear from parents of an Canadian gymnasts.....Do you have any problems accessing orthopedic specialists or can you get in right away? How about surgeries for gymnastics knee injuries etc? I would guess any elite athletes can get quick access, just wondering about the other athletes...
