One of the things that baffles my mind, along with the horrible NBC coverage, is gymnastics coaches who teach severely flexed wrists as dance. It's not. I know, I know you can dig up videos of one or two jazz choreographers who did it a lot, and it's done here and there in some other dances for effect (similar to a flexed foot in a dance move). But flexing wrists every time your hands go in the air cuts off the line and ruins an otherwise gorgeous routine from a dance perspective. Sigh. These habits are taught early like pointed toes.
Have your kid do a dance through of their floor routine flexing their feet at every opportunity. That's what a dancer sees when they watch the arms and hands of some of these floor routines. Why why why. Please let's not see a resurgence of this...
