Does texting/calling on Skype cost money. Is it like connected to the phone or is it online?

Text is like using messenger to other Skype users (can't rmember off the top of my head if they offer sms to mobiles.
There are different options. It's free to other Skype users or you can pay to call normal phones. It's all on their website.
