I just love it when all of a sudden a light bulb goes off in my head. My dd has been in a TOPS group ever since she was in pre-team (now in her second year of team). Of course back then I did some digging, found out all the ins and outs of TOPS but could never really understand why these girls were working so hard when I realistically knew that making it to National testing may not be in their future.
Well, these girls who are now competing level 3 and 4 are working on their kip cast handstands. I just now realize, "Oh, that's why we do hundreds of leg lifts and dozens of press handstands!" Hello? McFly?? This will make for awesome kips and solid cast handstands.
So, I was thinking of TOPS as kind of an end in itself in the context of getting to test. I now realize that THIS is what can make them really good optionals! Now more than ever I trust the coaches and realize that for everything, there is a reason!!
