Sole-circle help?

I have a quick question about sole-circles: I used to do sole-circles quite well and I loved them. About 8 months ago I got grips for the first time (I was 17 and never used grips of any kind so they took a lot of getting used to) and while I love them now for all my other skills, it scares me to death doing sole-circles. I feel like I get so much momentum as I pass under the bar I am going to peel right off. It just feels like my hands (more like my fingers) aren't holding onto the bar enough, if that makes sense.
Any thoughts on this? Have you/your gymnasts ever experienced this? Advice is very much appreciated, thanks! :)
