sports psychologist

I have a memory of reading on this list about a woman who works with gymnasts on the mental piece of the sport.

If anyone has any idea of who I'm talking about, could you post it here.

We would like to find someone who could come to our gym to talk with our girls and maybe parents...not sure.

Any help would be appreciated. We're in the Northeast, if that makes a difference.

Doc Ali lives in Arizona and has a great program that my dd has used but I haven't ever seen her in person.

Mark Gibson is not a sports psychologist but he does a great presentation and is in Southeast Pennsylvaina. Link Removed

Thanks! I just checked Doc Ali's site and from a quick glance it seems she does web based stuff (does anyone know differently?)
We're looking more for someone who will come to our club and do something for the girls and parents (separately) The stuff on Doc Ali's site looks great but expensive for just one little girl (age 10 level 6). Would love a motivator for the whole group of older girls.
Will check the other site recommended as well!

There is a HeadGames out of Massachusetts (or there used to be). The person who runs it works w Alison arnold closely-her name is Jennifer Roitman-though she may now have a married name (Seamans??) She uses all the head games stuff but is not as warm and personable as Alison is. Alison has a passion and charisma that the kids really attach to- she is expensive- but ALL the athletes & parents could benefit from her work-not just the ones with "issues". I do think a one stop visit would not be worth the price-- unless you have someone willing to follow up with one of the workbooks to keep teaching what can only be introduced in a one time lesson.

that's because allison is a former elite gymnast who was abused pretty badly as an athlete. she will come out for a fee.

Mark Gibson came to a gym I was at about 10 years ago and was really good. I've never had any experience with Dr. Arnold, so I can't really make a comparison. I think the concepts might be a little different, but I feel like Mark has some good ideas as well and might come at a cheaper cost since he would be traveling a shorter distance.
Maybe your gym could purchase some of Dr. Arnold's books to have on hand as like a gym library. It would be a smaller cost commitment and give team members, parents, and coaches a chance to see if it's something they might be interested in pursuing further/spending more money on. It might also give coaches a chance to become acquainted with the material so they could follow up with the athletes if a one time visit was arranged.

My daughters club did have doc Ali come out and do a session with the girls. She also spoke to the gymnasts and parents as a group, if I remember correctly. She was great. I dont know what the cost was, but she will go to your club.

Doc Ally has also come to our gym and talked in person with the girls on the team as well as the parents. Also, over the summer training period, our girls do Skype sessions with her. The upper level girls were required to attend, while the lower levels could attend but it was not required.
