This looks needlessly painful and unsafe. Also, the video flashes to black so much it hurts my eyes.

gymasstics. public hazard. good luck with that until you die like rest of the hundred or so yearly that have been doing so since 2006. you just can't teach stupid.

In our area they call this parkour and it's becoming really popular. Lots of gyms have started offering classes in it. We get calls daily from panicky mothers worried for their kids safety. It's a pretty neat class to watch and it provides these kids a safe outlet to do this in. Not to mention it's good for business as it brings in new kids and also offers many of our boys another venue once they outgrow gymnastics. (Retnetion for the guys is not as high as on the girls side).

Looks like parkour or 'street-running'. We get lots of these guys at our gym's adult class. It is a relatively safe place for them to try out and practise their stunts. Most of them are throwing the skills rather than using correct gymnastics technique. They also do some crazy-looking moves that I don't think are even done in gymnastics, more like break-dancing kind of stuff.

and not yet covered by insurance...stupid club owner risk.

This club is very close to my home - not my daughter's club but a great facility for the kids that use it.. They have a very well equipped gym club in the upstairs of the building

If the link doesn't 'land' on the right video, it's the one called '1066 freestyle club'

1066 - are you by any chance near hastings Karen ???? lol

Good video. Street running, parkour whatever I like watching it. Glad it came along way after I was too old to try it. I won't even let dd do stunts in the yard though. Scared of that too!

Yeah you can get seriously hurt and I'm sure you know that, but be careful and do your thing. Best case senario long term is your feet, ankles, and knees will be the only things shot.

Oh yeah and I have to echo the sentiment on the "hammer" pants. Those did come along in my era, and I'm glad I never tried them either.

Los Angeles also has a school that opened in April for Parkout and Free Running:

Some former gymnasts have also gotten involved, include Rachel Tidd-Scarbrough (2001 World Team Member):

Good to see Rachel has recovered well enough to continue participating in gymnastics in some way. Didn't she leave the Utah gym team for some type of back injury before really have the chance to compete? I would imagine she has to be in pretty good health to participate in parkour.
The club I used to coach at (primarily a T&T club) offered open gym time and kids would come in to practice parkour like stuff in a somewhat safer environment. I have no idea about the insurance specifics though. Perhaps because it's open gym and not specifically parkour it's okay? Or at least some kind of loophole... It seems nuts to me, but I'm an accident waiting to happen so I suppose I can't judge.

There are quite a few clubs around here offering it now as well. They call it either "Parkour" or "urban gymnastics." I think I was told that the name "Parkour" can't legally be used anymore? Trademark or copyright issues.. something to that effect, so they've changed the name to "Urban gymnastics" at the local clubs. The classes are always jam packed and it's gotta be a lot safer than running and tumbling around on concrete!!
