I didn't want to take over that thread so I made an alternate here.

Reading that essay did get me thinking about the scoring system. I know that the mens gymnastics in my area have implimented the newer scoring system through all the levels so when we went to that first meet and someone got a 15.25 we were all like WHAT???

The girls program howeve in my area still use the scoring where 10.0 is the max - maybe at a national level they don't but I haven't seen meets at that level yet and don't know if they do or not.

Anyway in the essay - it was suggested that they change the requirements for difficulty moves and that got me thinking why not just limit how many requirements you can do and how many of the "difficult" levels of requirement you can have in one routine? I know that new scoring is forgien to me so anyone with info on this I would love the hear from you - so what is the new Max score if they are going into the teens with scores now? Is it possible to have a routine that has the max value what ever that is? What do you see as a possible solution to the overly injured gymnasts trying to achieve this?

then men have been using "FIG" for awhile now. JO women uses JO code even thru nationals. the JO code is a dumbed down version of FIG. and ncaa modified a bit from that. and "FIG" can be modified by committee to be applied for different meets.

with 'FIG" there is no limit except for what is self imposed by human limitations. and although there might be a couple kids practicing yurchenko triple fulls, and only the exceptional will ever compete them (3 so far), i don't see a day where quads will be done unless the vault board is changed and the table being allowed to be raised.

2 years ago they did 'waterdown' the difficulty just a bit for women. without going in to a full blown conversation, and without getting to technical...we'll call the magic number of skills coming from difficulty as 8 as of 2 years ago. now it is 6 of those things that comprise difficulty.

as i've explained in another post, FIG isn't THAT bad. it's just like diving. you still have an artistic score. you just never see it and it's still based on a 10. then there is the difficulty score. that judge just adds up all the skills in the difficulty that are given a difficulty rating. like a double back is a 'D". you get 1/10 added to your difficulty score. so when it's all done and over with, lets say the athletes difficulty score was 5.0. 5.0 represents all those skills that have points that get added up to a total. then the other judge is judging artistic/execution. so let's say when she's done she has a 9.0. 9.0 is the old scoring based on the 10.0 system that JO currently uses. so, you add the 9.0 with the 5.0 and you get a 14.0. that's the final score.

i am simplifying this for the readers benefit. there is more to it but this is basically what takes place. the call from Bruno is idiotic because he knows what's wrong and what needs to be changed. like difficulty to name one. what he wants is to place blame on others the next time around as he is being blamed currently for what is now taking place. and this includes all the record number injuries at the elite/olympic level.

if you have other specific questions please feel to ask away.:)
