So all the gyms in our area are having try outs in May but our club is not telling us placements or even if they will have a spot on the team until June....so what do athletes do?
I think this is standard. Our club does try outs in late april or early may - usually a week and a half to two weeks after that the current members get told what group they are in for the next season. In the lead up to tryouts (which are typically only for ages 5-10 unless the club knows they have space for older higher level athletes) the coaches meet and decide which training group all current athletes should be in for the next season. We don't try out every year - once you're on the team, you're on the team unless you fail to show up regularly or become an issue.

Are athletes required to try out yearly at your club? Generally, if a club isn't offering someone who is on the team a spot for the upcoming season, that athlete should have an idea that's what might be happening.....it shouldn't be a surprise, but again this is just based on my experience at the club we are at.
