Men unafilliated/unattached

As far as I understand, when a gymnast is listed as unaffiliated/unattached it is because they are transferring gyms yes? I was just looking at the results from a meet ds competed at last January. There were a lot of Unaffiliated athletes (like 15). When I clicked on their names, it listed these athletes that way for all their meets for 2 seasons?!? Prior to that season they were all from the same gym, some for many years. What is up with that?

It could also mean that they have private coaches... but no gym TEAM, per se.
