Vadez

My daughter taught herself the valez after seeing it on utube. She taught herself to start with an outstretched arm on the side of her bent leg but just learned from her coach that she should be starting with her arm and leg extended on the same side. She finds it difficult to do it that way. Anyone know if it's okay to start a valdez with the arm extended on the opposite side as the extended leg or if doing so would result in a deduction or not having the skill count were she ever to add it to her floor or beam routine. Thanks.

This is roughly what it should look like YouTube - More Gymnastics

The arm that goes back has to be on the same side as the leg that is going over, otherwise it would not work at all, no it would not count as a valdez and you would eat the beam if you tried it that way.
