Hey Coaches,

Two of my gymnasts are having trouble staying on their feet on these 2 vaults. We have coached and taught several half fulls, but recently our gymnast just can't seem to stay on her feet no matter what correction we give her.

The 2nd vault is new for us coaching wise. Any tips and pointers are greatly appreciated!

In the half on full off, it looks like the block is severely locking. She's trying to twist without getting really anything from the table. It almost looks like she's twisting before she even blocks. What does her half on half off look like?

I only ever did yurchenkos, never coached them, but to me, it looks like she's losing a lot of power because she's floating up to the table instead of maintaining horizontal speed and momentum.

Thank you for your feedback Kate! Typically she has a great block. I think because of her over rotating she was trying to slow her power down, therefore eliminating her block. She was in the habit of piking through, so she has been working on keeping her hips open more.

I've never coached this vault or done it- but I'd suggest 'aiming the toes up' after the table to slow her rotation if the goal is to start landing them.

I would approach these vaults as mitigating rotation... I might try taking the board further away on the yurchenko because her entry angle is steep (good if she were trying to flip) and it's making her rotate, then the twist makes her rotate even more, then she's overdone it. If she could come in at an angle with less arch, it'd slow down.
