This coming weekend, my husband and I are having a "divide and conquer" kind of weekend. My DH is taking DD #1 (only #1 by 28 minutes... they're twins) to a cousin's wedding on the other side of the country. DD #2 (Kathy, my gymnast) and I are going to visit a friend in Philly (road trip!). It is also my birthday this weekend and I am desperately in need of a pedicure. Kathy has super-thick nails that I hate dealing with and, even though she's only 9, I thought that maybe it would be fun for her to get a pedicure with me (though she's not much of a girly-girl, so I don't know what she will think about it). I know any and all polish will have to come off before her first meet on Oct. 23, but besides that, is there any reason, from a gymnastics standpoint, that she shouldn't have one? It sounds so silly when I write it down, but really... does she have calluses on her feet that should stay there? Will having soft smooth feet make her slip off the beam? Or make it more difficult for her to squat-on the bars or anything like that? Thanks, in advance, for your answers, and for not laughing at me (much).:D

My DD (age 11) gets mani's and Pedi's. Her feet and finger nails get gross from the gym and I think it helps keep them looking nice.
So IMO, go for it. You two will have a great time together. Happy Birthday to you :)

My eleven year old gets regular mani and pedis too. She does colored polish on the toes in the 'off' season and french on the toes during meet season. The french looks very natural and clean.

Have fun!

My DD and I go for a manicure/pedicure at least once a month and she loves every moment of it. We always go for lunch/dinner (some meal) with just me and her. She and love that mommy and me time as for the polish she always gets clear if she knows she has a meet coming up otherwise it's the brightest color on the shelf. She has never complained that it has affected her gymnastics in anyway.

Go for it. My 7yr old DD gets them when I go too. Her feet get so torn up, I don't even know where to start! If the cuticle clipping and whatnot makes you nervous then don't do it. Her feet will rough up again soon if that's a worry, and if things are feeling slippery until then it's nothing some chalk on the foot cant handle.

We've even gone for pedis with groups of team girls after meets. Color comes off for meets.
