Two of my DS had big growth spurts when they hit puberty. 3 inches in about 2 - 3 months. My middle DS had a range of knee problems that persisted for 12 -18 months as a result.
One of the 19yo men I train came to gym last week and he had grown 2 inches from the the previous time we did high bar. 2 inches in 2 weeks. We had to move the highbar up because he didnt fit any more!
As a boys coach I find puberty certainly increases their strength and they no longer struggle with some of the strength elements that were problematic prior to puberty. Floor is far more powerful, they can tumble higher, run faster, and they have more powerful vault.
