DD hurt her ankle this weekend so we did the RICE method and seen the family Dr Monday am, she took an xray and said their specialist would look at it and let us know what he thought and gave her a boot to wear and to keep doing the RICE tell we hear from them. We heard back and they can not rule out a hairline fracture so we are going to see a foot Dr next Monday. My question is.. if it is, how long are we looking at before DD can return to gymnastics? So I can better prepare DD for the what might be ahead. And the best case if its a level one sprain. Thank you so much .

Ouch! I have no idea, but I hope she feels better soon!!

Remind her how important it is to heed the doctor's advice and not rush back any sooner than they say. Otherwise, she can extend the injury. :(

When my daughter broke her foot, it was 8 weeks ...and it healed completely with no sequelae..

We just had the same thing happen. The first doc said it was a sprain, the specialist said the growth plate was chipped. DD is in a walking cast for 4 weeks. It'll be no gymnastics for 5 weeks by the time she can get to practice.

Thank you, all good to know. We are realllly hoping that its a level 1 sprain and not a hairline fracture. Now the hard part is waiting tell Monday to find out.

With my daughter it was always longer than they told us originally!

Awww! Is that is your DD in the pic? If so, she is SO CUTE! But back to the subject RICE every afternoon (bc I know kids are busy & have school during the day) RICE will help heal faster. But normally takes 4 to 6 wks to heal fully. You want to make sure it is healed completely b4 starting up again. if the ankle isn't healed & you continue activity it can lead to a more serious injury or recurring injury in the future.

Thank you, Yep that's my lil gymmie =) and we have been doing the RICE everyday from the time she gets home tell bedtime. Are you saying a sprain or hairline fracture will take 4 to 6 weeks to heal?

Either or both--a sprain can take longer to heal than a fracture sometimes.
